Medications / Refills

You may be given prescriptions and instructions for medication necessary for your treatment. If you have a problem with a medication or need a re-fill and are not planning an office visit, please call us during office hours so that we can assist you.

  • Prescription refills and requests should be made 2-3 days before your last dose, by calling (925) 469-6274 or contacting your pharmacy. We will call you if the prescription cannot be refilled or if we have questions. Contact your pharmacy 24 hours after leaving the refill request with our office.
  • Prescriptions will not be filled after hours or on weekends

Common Medications We Prescribe
NSAIDs
Your doctor may recommend that you take a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) as part of the treatment plan for your spinal problem. NSAIDs are commonly used to treat inflammation, which often causes or worsens pain by causing stiffness and swelling. Some NSAIDs are available over the counter including aspirin, low dose ibuprofen (such as Advil™, Motrin™, Nuprin™, etc.) and low dose naproxen (Aleve™, etc.). These medications are safe and effective for the vast majority of patients taking them appropriately. We may recommend NSAIDs for your treatment, which are only available with a doctor's prescription.

Before Using NSAIDs
Carefully read all directions, and follow any advice and/or precautions.
Inform your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reactions to aspirin, any over the counter NSAIDs for any other medication used to treat pain, fever, swelling or arthritis.
Confirm with your pharmacist or physician that the medication is compatible with any other medications you are taking.
Inform your physician if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
Inform your physician if you have any bleeding or blood clotting problems, or if you have a history of gastrointestinal bleeding or ulcers.

How to Use NSAIDS
Use only as directed by your doctor
Take with food and a full glass of water (8 oz).
Do NOT double dose.
Take only for the prescribed time period recommended by your doctor.
