Dr. Fontaine graduated from the University of Southern California School of Medicine in 1990 and then completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center. He has been practicing in the Bay Area since 1994.

Dr. Fontaine’s expertise includes the non-surgical management of spine, sports, and occupational injuries. Based on his training as a physiatrist, he emphasizes functional restoration in the treatment of spine problems. He has special training in minimally invasive spine procedures including diagnostic and therapeutic spine injections using fluoroscopy, and in the treatment of vertebral compression fractures (vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty). Dr. Fontaine uses the procedures listed above to help control pain and facilitate rehabilitation. He also has a significant amount of experience working with spine surgeons and is well versed in the indications for surgical intervention for spinal disorders.

He is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He is an active member of North American Spine Society, International Spine Intervention Society, Physiatric Association of Spine Sports and Occupational Rehabilitation as well as the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Dr. Fontaine lives in the Tri-Valley area with his wife and children and is active in a variety of outdoor sports.
